Post So many skillpoints and so little attribute points...

I'm level 20 now (virtually 21), and I just learned every virtual new level does not give me any attribute points, but only a skillpoint. I'm wondering whats the point of this? I mean: I have 28 spare skillpoints I never use because I'm looking for only 1 or 2 more skills, which I did not find yet. So I dont need so many skillpoints, but I would like to have lots of more attribute points to get better! Basicly it feels like I'm forced to start a new chr. now since this one won't get better anymore. But than I wonder whats the point of leveling a chr. to 20 if that's just the end of the game

what you need to do is make 2 more characters. that way you will have all the skills from all professions. belive me you will not have 28 skill points left over.

once yo uhave all the skills from every profession then you can make a PvP character with your 4th slot and can choose any profession you like and have all the skills at your disposal

I personally haven't chanced my secondary perfession and have used at least 8 just to get some of the elite skills, plus there are skills that can only he learned from a skill trainer.

The whole point of the level cap is to stop you getting any more attribute points. The game is meant to be about player skill, not how many hundreds of hours you've spent grinding to gain attribute points. Having the attribute points capped at 200 enforces the rule that any level 20 player is essentially as powerful as any other level 20 player.

Sorry, I dont get it. As far as I know its not possible to trade skills from 1 chr. to another. Also I would not know how/where to change the 2nd profession of my chr. And why should I want that anyway? I chose it with care.

If you've got that many skill points left over, you should browse the skill listings, start strategizing, do some PvP, and use your skill points to unlock more skills.

The making of 2 more characters means getting skills from all 6 professions if you pick your characters right. Then that leftover 4th slot is devoted to whatever PvP character of whatever class combination you want to make.

Changing the secondary profession of your current character means you get to unlock the skills of that secondary once you switch - very useful if you, say, have leftover skill points.

Get a good guild/group together and do some guild/tombs PvP if you've unlocked everything - that's where I find most of the fun.

I would have thought it would have been more apt to say "So many skills and so little skill points".

Well if you've unlocked every skill and item chances are you've spent way too long at this game. Perhaps 300+ hours. Probably more. And then it comes to; why haven't you started to PvP? I guess its not your style and thats OK but that is a big part of this game.

To original poster;
The reason you dont get more attributes is because they don't want 'godly' characters. They want everyone to be on a fair playing field. By doing all the skill quests you're most likely going to have that many skill points left over. They're basically for the people that don't want to do skill quests and will just buy all their skills.

I"m still not sure if I get it. Does this mean that:
-A second chr, lets say Me/Ne, would be able to find and use skills of my first chr, a mo/wa??
-And in reverse my first chr. would in future be able to find and use the skills I found with the Me/Ne? All without changing a profession and also for pve chrs??

No; you know the screen that comes up when you create a character, and you get to choose Roleplay Character or PvP-Only character? Well, if you choose PvP-only character, you can create a character that starts at level 20 automatically, and he automatically has access to all the skills that you've unlocked with any of your normal characters, as well as free access to the different runes you've unlocked. So, let's say you go through the game once with a Warrior/Monk, and then again with a Necro/Mesmer. Then you'd be able to make PvP characters that were Necro/Warriors, or Monk/Mesmers, or Mesmer/Monks, etc., without needing to start all over from level 1.

The game is supposed to be about how strong your strategy is, not how strong your character is.

Ok so its only for pvp. Than it still seems to me that the spare skillpoints I have now are pretty useless. I have the monk/warrior skills I find usefull for pve, except maybe 2 or 3. Changing my secondary skill? Not for pve, since I want to continue with a mo/wa therre. Thus that also would only be usefull for a future pvp chr, since a new secondary profession unlocks new skills.

I think I got it right now: If I like to play pvp in future its usefull to gather as many skills from all differend professions as I can. But if I only intend to adventure and play pve... Well than I'm back where I started: I have too many useless skillpoints and I would like *much* more attributepoints lol! No matter the balance for pvp, in pve the ultimate thrill is to bring down the strongest monster just by yourself, without any help. And even the best skilled player cant do that: you simply need to be stronger than

How do you know there isn't any other possible skills that might help you bring down "the strongest monster just by yourself"? There are tons of combinations in this game, why not try something else? I don't understand that.

The extra skills help in PvE and not just in PvP.

You can change your secondary to get other skills, and then change back to your original secondary. You can do that as often as you want.

Not sure if I can explain this but its about roleplaying: I play a friendly monk who heals those who support him, but who may suddenly become a hard opponent when you fight him. The skills I need are healing skills and a number of fighting skills. I use a shield and switch between a +15 energy rod and sword. The skills I need are healing skills, resurrection, some smiting skills and sword skills. Nothing else is usefull for THIS chr. When I would start an evil necromancer/mage I would devellop differend skills. But for roleplaying you never need more than like 10-16 decent skills to choose from for each chr. The whole point of a roleplaying adventure is to become good in the few skills you have and to get stronger by the items you find.
